Review:

I first saw it online while randomly browsing. It was so beautiful, I instantly fell for it. It is a pricey watch, so I decided to save some ka-ching and bought it for my birthday. I bought it on Amazon.

Amazon's prompt delivery always amazes me. When the watch arrived finally, it came in the standard Michael Kors sturdy black leather box package with a fluffy brown cushion for the watch. The watch is genuine - which you can make out by the Michael Kors engraving on the back. My first impressions were that it looked more shinier than in the pictures! Also, the bezel seemed bigger than it appeared in the pictures.

It is definitely BIG on my thin wrist. I had to have the band length re-sized to fit me, and I removed 3 of the links. This watch is a heavy one (nearly 500 g) and it does feel heavy on the wrist initially till you get used to it :P

The watch is super glitzy and glamorous, the crystals razzle and dazzle especially under ceiling lights like in the  shopping malls, party halls, etc. All that dazzle is fine for parties or as a statement piece to dress up a casual outfit it is the perfect accessory. It is so eye catching and statement making that it may be inappropriate for office wear. The Rose Gold looks fantastic on any skin tone, especially complementing dusky skin tones. I always receive compliments for it.

It's been a year since I purchased it, and I am happy that the color hasn't worn off, the plating has not chipped anywhere, no scratches on the dial despite having accidentally dropped it a couple of times and storing it in my makeup box along with other makeup jars, tubes, and jewelry - none of them caused any abrasions on the watch, and the crystals set in the watch are still as shiny as they initially were. Overall, I am happy to the T with the watch.

Disclaimer: The above review is 100% honest and my own opinion on it. I purchased the watch on Amazon with my own money.

DIY Eyelash & Brow Oil for Longer and Thicker Lashes and Brows

Who doesn't want fluttery long lashes and brows that complement? While both lashes and brows help to protect the eyes from foreign particles, they extend the beauty and expression of the eyes even more.

Fun Fact: Do you know there are about 100 lashes on the upper eyelid and 60 on the lower eyelid on average?

Eyelashes are 10% water and 90% keratin protein. They are fed by follicles rooted in the skin. If an eyelash falls out, it needs nearly 2 months to be regenerated.

In India, Kajal is traditionally prepared according to the ancient Ayurvedic recipe, where a long wick made out of a white cloth is burnt all night long in a lamp filled with castor oil. In the morning the blackened residue is collected and stored in a box. Apart from having religious significance, Kajal is believed to have medicinal properties too as a coolant for the eyes and protectant for the eyes from the harsh sun rays.

Today's recipe is inspired by the ancient Ayurveda and uses Castor Oil as a base.

Ingredients:
1 tsp Castor Oil
1 tsp Peanut Oil also known as Arachis Oil
1 tsp Safflower Oil
5 strands of Saffron

Mix all the oils along with the strands of Saffron. Let the Saffron infuse the oil over time. Transfer into a small glass bottle and store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Use before bedtime. Take a small drop on a clean fingertip and spread on the roots of the lashes on both the upper eyelids and lower lash line to feed the follicles and the brows. This will also promote deep sleep.

Benefits:
Castor oil - Castor oil aids in better blood circulation and therefore promotes healthy hair growth.
Peanut oil or Arachis oil - Peanut oil is full of protein which help thicken the hair naturally.
Safflower oil - Safflower oil is rich in vitamin E and prevents the lashes from free radical damage and makes them stronger.
Saffron - Saffron is beneficial for the eyes preventing eyesight loss while encouraging new lash and brow hair growth especially in the "bald" spots.

Results:
Results are striking and can be observed in just 2 days of application. However, for best results, use for 2 - 3 months. Thereafter, use as and when desired.

Thanks for reading.

Love and happiness,

Green Juice for Weight Loss - Recipe, Benefits, and Results

Juice delivers high concentration of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and sugar directly to the bloodstream without fiber and are better absorbed. However, this isn't a concern with vegetable juice as they are naturally low in sugar. Research says that vegetable juice, especially the leafy kind, is linked to less risk of developing diabetes.

Green juice packs in more vegetables and its goodness within, that we would otherwise struggle to get into our tummies. So, if we are able to eat X portion of greens, juice packs in the nutrients multiple times  of these green vegetables to produce the X portion that we are able to consume as per our appetite. So it is the easiest way to get the daily recommended serving of green vegetables.Being low in fiber, it is easier on the tummy for digestion giving those organs some much needed rest.

Green juice is synonymous with health, and many are wary that it looks so scary and it might not taste good. I promise that it is not that bad at all!

As with any other juice, it is best consumed immediately or it starts to oxidize and lose its nutritional value. But it can be stored longer in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Main ingredients  - cucumber and spinach.

Feel free to add all your favorite green veggies in - spring onion, celery stalk, coriander, mint, curry leaves, lettuce, green apple, cabbage, broccoli, the works! The more, the merrier.

My recipe:
2 cucumbers
2 bunches spinach
1 small bunch spring onion
1 small bunch coriander leaves
4 - 5 mint leaves
7 - 10 curry leaves
1/2 small lettuce
1 large lemon (to taste)
1/2 tsp black salt (to taste)

Firstly, give all of the veggies a very thorough wash under running water and then put all of them into a Juicer.  If you don't have a juicer, simply put them in your mixer-grinder to pulverize it and sieve it to get the juice out. Finally add the lemon juice and black salt and give it a nice mix. This recipe makes enough (approximately 1 litre) to serve 4 . Sometimes I  alone consume it all.

Best time to have it is in the morning on an empty stomach or at least an hour or so before a meal. This is the best time as the body is able to absorb all of the nutrients better. Go for organic veggies if they are available at your place as they are free of harmful pesticides and taste much better.

Benefits:
Cucumbers are high in water content helping keep the body well hydrated. It also has phytosterols that help lower cholesterol and electrolytes like potassium that keeps blood pressure in check.

Spinach is a fabulous source of iron and calcium for healthy blood and bones.

Coriander helps prevent nausea and other skin disorders due to its detoxifying nature. It also helps menstrual problems.

Spring onion is high in sulfur and helps treat acne.

Mint is a natural antiseptic and heals the body and gives a refreshing feeling as well.

Curry leaves control acidity and helps with weight loss.

Lettuce helps hair growth and also add a wonderful crunchy taste to the juice especially together with lemon juice.

Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and helps absorb the nutrients fast and brings out the flavour of the greens.

Black salt also helps with weight salt and helps neutralize the strong alkali taste of the greens.

Results:
I have been following this juice recipe every day without fail in the morning on empty stomach and within the first 2 - 3 days itself my weight loss was visible! My waist line had visibly reduced and my tummy had flattened as well. Overall, my figure looks more toned and there is no change in my regular workout routine or meals. My skin looks refreshed and I am also feeling stronger from within. Also, I have noticed that my teeth look shinier. My hair loss has reduced. In a month, I lost 5 kg. The results are fantastic and very motivating to continue this green juicing. It is easy and I find it tasty, so just like that it has become my favorite recipe to lose weight.

Do give it a try and leave your feedback in the comments.

Positivity always,
Sash!

Benefits of Vitamins on Skin & Hair

Trivia: "Vitamine", coined by Polish biochemist, Casimir Funk (too funky for my vitamins), from Latin 'Vita' meaning life and 'Amine' from the belief that all such nutrients were amines. With the discovery of Vitamin C, it was learnt that there was no amine component in it, so the final 'e' was dropped.

Fact: 13 vitamins are universally recognized at present.

Feed your skin inside out! Here's how each of the 13 vitamins blesses your skin/ hair.

Vitamin A - Vitamin A is present in skincare products in the form of Retinol. Vitamin A (and E) are the most potent anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants protect the skin from the destructive action of free radicals in the environment. Retinol also supports cell renewal, so it promotes healthy skin by replacing damaged, scarred skin cells with healthy underlying cells. Therefore, it is used in anti-scars creams. It is known to boost collagen production and is used in many anti-aging, anti-wrinkle creams. It is used in acne care and it also helps cure eczema and soothe sunburn. Foods abundant in Vitamin A are carrot, spinach, sweet potato, liver, fish, pumpkin.

Vitamin B -There are 8 recognized B vitamins that constitute the B complex - Vitamin B1, B2, B3,B5, B6,B7, B9, B12.

Vitamin B1 is also known as Thiamine and often referred to as the "anti-stress" vitamin. It protects from the signs of aging like wrinkles, age spots, and other age-related conditions. Foods abundant in Vitamin B1 are pork, oatmeal, brown rice, potatoes, eggs.

Vitamin B2 is also known as Riboflavin. It is useful for the health of skin, nails and hair. Riboflavin also helps to clean up the skin pustules that are a type of acne. Foods abundant in Vitamin B2 are almonds, eggs, dairy products, green beans, asparagus.

Vitamin B3 is also known as Niacin. It has anti aging, acne preventing, and skin oil balancing properties. Foods abundant in Vitamin B3 are meat, fish, eggs, mushrooms, tree nuts.

Vitamin B5 is popular in the beauty world as Pro-vitamin B5 or D-Panthanol for their moisturizing properties. As a humectant, it is widely used in hair products to make it softer and manageable (...Pantene?). It converts to Pantothenic acid in the skin. It is effective as a moisturizer and softener, and plumps out skin reducing the appearance of fine lines. Foods abundant in Vitamin B5 are meat, broccoli, avocados.

Vitamin B6, also know as Pyridoxamine, helps in treating eczema, dandruff, acne (preventing excess production of sebum), hair loss and dry skin. Foods abundant in Vitamin B6 are meat, tree nuts, bananas.

Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H or Biotin has for ages been referred to as the “beauty vitamin” for its very important metabolic function, which translates to healthy skin, hair and nails. This creates a gloss on skin, relieves dry, itchy skin, dandruff, and prevents hair loss. Foods abundant in Vitamin B7 are Raw egg yolk, liver, peanuts, leafy green vegetables.

Vitamin B9, also known as folic acid is the all important vitamin during pregnancy can also help in post pregnancy issues like hair loss and dull skin. It directly increases iron levels and helps hair grow faster and stronger. Foods abundant in Vitamin B9 are leafy green vegetables.

Vitamin B12 controls and inhibits excessive melanin production. It prevents hair graying and at the same time helps Vitiligo on topical application. It makes hair stronger and prevents hair loss and splits. It prevents dullness in skin and also prevents skin lesions. Food abundant in Vitamin B12 is meat.

Vitamin C - It is also known as ascorbic acid and it is the main ingredient in skin brightening and lightening products. Vitamin C is the building block of collagen, and it tightens skin, shrinks pores, and repairs skin damage. Foods abundant in Vitamin C are citrus fruits.

Vitamin D - The famous sunshine vitamin is essential for the development of skin cells.Vitamin D is a key ingredient for beautiful looking skin. Ergocalciferol, a plant source of vitamin D doesn’t require sunlight to start giving skin the benefits of vitamin D and is found in skin care products. Foods that are abundant in Vitamin D are milk, fish, eggs, liver, mushrooms.

Vitamin E - It is another powerful anti-oxidant. Vitamin E is found in skin and hair care products as Tocopherol. It treats scars, eczema, and dryness. It moisturizes and softens skin and hair , encourages hair growth and stronger hair, prevents breakage and split ends. Foods that are abundant in Vitamin E are nuts and seeds, leafy greens, and wheatgerm.

Vitamin K - It is available as phylloquinone, menaquinones. It is essential for blood clotting, but when applied topically it erases scars and pigmentation like spider veins, stretch marks, and burns. It is also used topically to treat rosacea. Vitamin K is used to speed up skin healing and reduce bruising and swelling. Foods that are abundant in Vitamin K are green veggies, sprouts and herbs.

That is the all the wonders that vitamins can do to your skin, hair, nails and general well-being. Hope you found this article interesting.

Sugar scrubs - Benefits and DIY recipes!

Honey! Oh, Sugar, Sugar! You are my candy, girl! And you got me wanting you.

Not sure if Archie knew that sugar could have brought him on his knees. o_O

This is gonna be one post that is all praise for all the goodness that is Sugar! Sugar going inside your body to all your organs can lead to health issues. However sugar going on your largest organ, your skin, can lead to wonders! ^_~

Sugar scrubs are so yummy that your skin will surely savor it!

Sugar; all kinds of sugar, is a gentle exfoliant and it is great source of glycolic acid and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) too.

Microdermabrasion, skin brightening, and acne treatments rely on glycolic acid to unleash its powers together with mild exfoliation to help it penetrate better into the skin!! Glycolic acid penetrates into your skin as deep as the layer of dead skin sitting on top of the topmost layer of your skin and breaks the bond between the skin cells that are holding it together, thereby making it oh-so-easy to slough off the dead skin layer. Dead skin is translucent but it lacks the luster of the fresh, healthy skin underneath it. Polishing/ exfoliating/ sloughing/ pezeseling (using chemical peels!) helps get rid of this dead skin.

AHAs as are well renowned for their anti-aging, skin smoothening, and de-pigmentation benefits. AHA also work similar to glycolic acid by breaking down the bonds that keep skin cells, good, bad, and ugly, hooked so tight. Once these bonds are broken, the bad and ugly are usually easily dissolved or washed away, and the goodness shines through.

Usually cosmetics containing either of these acids are pretty expensive. But these simple sugar scrubs prepared at home will pamper you just the same, leaving you feeling and looking like you just stepped out of a Spa!

1. Dry Skin Savior Exfoliant
Dry skin usually tends to get even more dry and flaky after a scrub. Scrubs tend to be a tad harsh in nature. Not this one. Sugar first breaks down the dead skin bonds. Being a natural humectant, it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So, it moisturizes while scrubbing! Double benefits - double glow.
DIY Recipe:
1 tsp (powdered) Brown sugar - use powdered sugar for sensitive skin
1 tsp Honey - use Manuka honey if available
Mix the two well, and brown sugar will start melting in the honey. Cleanse skin with water and use this scrub on moist skin. Massage for 2 minutes on the face and neck. Rinse and pat dry. Hello, Bombshell!

2. Oily, Acne-prone Skin Remedy Exfoliant
Oily skin generally tends to produce excessive sebum which can get clogged in the pores and result in acne. Any kind of abrasive scrubs are discouraged as they tend to encourage sebaceous glands to produce more sebum as a defense mechanism from a scrub that is stealing its sebum from itself. Scrubs are painful on acne prone skin and further disturb the skin. NOT this one. Sugar will naturally cleanse the oil gently. So it oil balances while scrubbing. Double benefits - double radiance.
DIY Recipe:
1 tsp (powdered) Brown sugar
1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
A pinch of Cinnamon powder
Mix all and let sit for a minute till the brown sugar is completely dissolved. Apply on a cleansed face with gentle upward and outward motion. Do not massage for more than a minute. Let dry for 2 - 5 minutes. Rinse off and air dry. Hello, Gorgeous!

3. Mature, Aging Skin Beneficence Exfoliant
Most of the skin care products are not as effective on mature skin as the skin tends to be a bit more thicker and resilient. No, not this one! Sugar, with all its skin softening properties, renders the skin softer. The glycolic acid in sugar removes dead cells, thereby the wrinkles look less pronounced. The AHA plump out the fine lines, thereby skin looks younger.
DIY Reciple
1 tsp  Brown sugar
1 tsp Cane juice (substitute with a solution of cane sugar and water)
Mix and apply on cleansed skin. Massage for 2 minutes and let sit on skin for 5 minutes. Rinse and air dry. Hello, Beautiful!

4. Darkened, Roughened Skin Elixir Exfoliant
Abrasive scrubs are a strict no-no on darkened skin as they could aggravate the condition. Roughened skin reacts to scrubs as a coconut shell to sand paper. But, not this one! The glycolic acid and AHA will soften the skin and gently slough the dead skin off while at the same time help in whitening the skin. Ideal to use on cracked heels, or dark, rough elbows and knees, or any other area requiring TLC.
DIY Recipe:
1 tsp Brown sugar
1 tsp Plain sugar
1.5 tsp coconut oil
Mix all and apply on the required areas after cleansing with warm water. Massage for 5 minutes and rinse off. Pat dry with a soft wash cloth. Hello, Smoothilicious!

5.Chapped Lip Sexifying Exfoliant
Want plump, smooth, soft, moisturized, even colored, juicy lips all at once? Tired of commercial lip scrubs that deliver only one or the other? Disappointed every time? You guessed it! NOT with this one. It has just the right ingredients to bring the blood flow to the mouth making it nice and plump, lightening agents to remove discoloration, and softening, moisturizing ingredient that is our sugar.
DIY Recipe:
1/2 tsp Caster sugar
3 drops Lemon juice
A pinch of Cinnamon powder
2 Mint leaves, finely crushed
1/2 tsp Olive oil
Moist the lips and rub the mixture gently in small circular motions all over the lips, concentrating on the outer corners. Do not lick! :P Rinse and pat dry. Hello, Smoochilicious!

6. All Over Body Cookie Exfoliant
When was the last time you smelled yummy like an oven fresh cookie? When was the last time you looked like a glazed cherry? Why not? Your favorite body scrub doesn't leave you like that? Tch! Tch! No worries! This time you will. YES, with this one. It will leave you squeaky clean and smelling so wonderful, you would wish you could stay in the bath all day. It will smooth rough patches, even out skin tone, regulate skin's oil production,  tighten skin, refresh, and make you fall in love. And someone else too. Wink!
DIY Recipe:
1/4 cup Brown sugar
1/4 cup Plain sugar
1/2 cup Olive oil
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder
Mix all ingredients and use in shower. Depending o your preference, you may use it all by itself, or use it before or after using a soap based cleanser. Massage in upward circular motions, starting at the feet and moving upwards towards the shoulders. Rinse off and pat dry. Hello, Scrumptious!

Word of caution: Never, ever step out into the sun after a scrub. Your skin is even more vulnerable to the harmful radiation. Even though AHA are believed to reverse the sun damage, it is wise to use it after returning from sun and not before venturing into it. Also, never overdo a scrub. Minimal pressure while scrubbing, and a maximum of twice-thrice a week scrubs should reap all the benefits you wished for.

Hope you had fun reading this article and hope I had a recipe that suits your concern. Hopefully you are inspired to try out these simple (but efficient) DIY recipes. Please comment your thoughts, suggestions, feedback, ideas, requests, and love in the comment box below. I would love to hear from you.

Have fun,

REVIEW: YLG Salon Service - Gold Wax

Gold serum, gold cream, gold facial, and now gold wax? How luxurious!

YLG is a chain of salons located in Bangalore and Chennai, India. Amongst the wide range of services on its platter, painless waxing is one of its forte. It has newly come up with an ingenious painless wax service - gold wax. Read on to find out more about this wax and my review on it.

I first came to know about their gold wax through their hoarding right across my home. Luckily, their newly opened store was barely 5 minutes away from my home!

The gold wax is performed by a waxing expert duo team using no-burn exclusive temperature controlled cartridges. It claims no pain, no burn, and sun de-tan. It also promises slower hair growth and instant, long lasting glow!

I will now explain my personal reasons that compelled me to choose the gold wax over others.

1. Super sensitive skin - hormonal changes brought about by pregnancy and breastfeeding had made my skin  super sensitive to pain. Like even a touch seems so many times rough and tough.

2. Super fast and thick hair growth - Another change brought about by the hormonal changes during this baby making period. Hair grows luxuriously. While it is certainly welcome on the head, every where else is certainly not.

3. Ingrown hair and rashes - A very common side effect of improper waxing / hair removal. Owing to thick hair or bad waxing, I would always end up with ingrown hair that would later get inflamed and turn out as painful bumps and scarring.
4. Little time on hand - With a little baby constantly needing my time and attention, time is the most precious asset.
5. Pocket friendly"splurges" - I like to save as much as possible, so that I can then splurge on as many as possible! LOL.

I decided to give the gold wax a try.

I made an appointment online the previous night for an afternoon session on the next day as I felt it would not be so crowded at that hour of the day. The next day, I walked in to the salon during my preferred slot, and boy was I surprised by the number of people in there! Clearly, this was a busy salon day in and out.

Within 5 minutes, I was attended to. However, there was only one attendant unlike the duo team I expected as per the ad. The room looked fresh and neat. I needed a full legs waxing, so I was required to lie down on a bed. The thing I loved most was that she respected my privacy by going only up to the area on my thigh as I had requested. Most beauticians feel no awkwardness in going up to all the places and embarrassing the hell out of me and almost giving me a Brazilian.

It seemed the wax was ready to use. She immediately got to the job and picked up a cartridge. The cartridge looked like a white cuboid plastic container with a roller on top which could be closed with a cap. The wax was warm but tolerable. The consistency was more like a lotion than waxy. It easily spread as a thin layer on the skin with the help of the roller on the cartridge. It took no time to cool, so she immediately pulled off the hair using a disposable paper strip. Owing to its super silky consistency, it didn't hurt even the tiniest bit when pulled off. It's just like putting on a moisturizer and pulling it off using a strip of paper! No pain, all gain. And so she got both my legs done in about 5 minutes. Can you believe that!? After the waxing, she cleaned up and remaining bits. Finished off with lavender based oil which was so fragrant and silky to touch. I walked out with super smooth and shimmering legs. So all of its claims were 100% true and I was a very happy customer. As i write this article it's already 7 weeks post the wax, and my legs are still silky smooth and hairless. Not even half a millimetre! I can confidently wear anything that reveals a bit of the legs. Unlike the regular wax, this didn't give me any ingrown hair or any inflammation or rashes or itches or anything! Unlike the regular wax that takes at least a half an hour, this one saved me so much time by finishing within 5 minutes. That way, I reckon it would take 10 minutes or so for a full hands and legs session. It removed the discoloration on the legs and the skin looks so even and healthy now. It also lightened up the scars from previous waxing inflammations.

If only this had existed ever since the first time I had a wax 10 years ago! My legs would have looked like a super model's. Hehehe. Nonetheless, it is here today and just like that it is my all time favorite salon service.

Pros

1. No pain

2. No burn

3. Non sticky

4. Silky smooth and shiny finish

5. De-tans and anti-marks

6. No ingrown hair

7. No bumps or any kind of inflammation

8. Time saved

9. Hair growth dramatically reduced

Cons

1. The salon chain is currently located only in Bangalore and Chennai, so the rest of India cannot experience the amazing gold wax

2. Slightly more expensive than regular, conventional wax but given the technology of the product and the quality of the result, it is absolutely worth it. On another note, pro rata conventional wax hair growth rate, it could take up to 2 - 3 waxes in the time that hair re-growth post gold wax. In this way, it actually turns out to be a money saver!

Would I go for another one? Yes, absolutely! Without any doubt.

Would I recommend it? Any doubts???

The review above is 100% my own opinion and I spent my own money for the wax service.

Please leave your comments, suggestions, requests, queries in the comments section below.

Hope you enjoyed the review and hope you will enjoy the service as much as I did.

xoxo
